Statement about the recent attacks against Israeli civilians Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson (excerpt) (Paris, July 15, 2005)
We call on the Palestinians to stop the violence in accordance with the truce observed since January. The attacks on Israeli civilians, such as the recent attack on Netanya and the rockets fired on Sderot which killed an Israeli woman, are unjustifiable and against the interests of the Palestinian people. We call on the Palestinian Authority to do everything to impose public order in the Territories that is within the law. Beyond this, and in the face of the wave of violence that is again striking the Middle East, we call on both parties to exercise the utmost restraint and not to enter into the logic of reprisals. In the run-up to the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, cooperation between the two parties is necessary to relaunch the peace process. (…) |
