TEXT OF DRAFT OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE CONTAINING NOTIFICATION OF ARRIVAL
OF THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE IN PALESTINE AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF HEARINGS,
APPROVED BY THE PALESTINE COMMITTEE, 3 JUNE 1947
(to be sent by cable for insertion in the Palestinian Press)
The United Nations Special Committee on Palestine expects to arrive in Palestine in the second week of June to investigate, in accordance with the terms of reference assigned to it by the General Assembly, "all questions and issues relevant to the problem of Palestine."
For this purpose, the Special Committee expects to receive such written and oral testimony as it may deem useful from the Mandatory Power, from representatives of the population of Palestine, from Governments, and from organizations and individuals.
Since the Committee must submit its report to the United Nations General Assembly at its next regular session in September, it is imperative that as much testimony as possible be submitted in writing for the consideration of the Committee. Accordingly, organizations or persons who so desire are urged to prepare written statements for submission to the Committee at the earliest possible date. Thirty copies of such written material are desired for the use of the Committee. They should be addressed to the Chairman of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine, c/o the Secretariat, Y.M.C.A. Building, Jerusalem.
Qualified persons who particularly wish to be heard orally should send requests for hearing in writing to the above address, indicating the subject or subjects on which testimony is desired.
