Kidnapped Staff Safely Released
August 8, 2005 – This morning, at 11:50am, a militant group kidnapped three United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) staff members, one British national, one Swiss national and one Palestinian, in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.
Following negotiations, the staff members were released into UNRWA and Palestinian Authority Preventive Security custody.
The staff members have now returned safely to UNRWA headquarters in Gaza City. Access through Abu Houli checkpoint, which was closed, was provided by the Israeli Defense Forces.
