UK EU Presidency strongly condemns Hadera terrorist attack

British Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East, Dr Kim Howells, said (26.10.05) :

"The suicide bombing in the Israeli coastal city of Hadera is a cowardly, criminal attack aimed at innocent civilians … our sympathies and thoughts are with the families of those killed and injured.

"We have said many times that there can be no justification what so ever for any acts of terrorism. We understand that Palestinian Islamic Jihad have claimed responsibility for the attack. We recognise that the Palestinian Authority has taken some steps to address the key issue of security but it is essential that it should do far more to prevent attacks such as these. We urge restraint on the Israeli authorities in responding to this cowardly attack".
