CONCILIATION COMMISSION QUERIES ISRAEL ON INSTALLATION

OF GOVERNMENTAL SERVICES IN JERUSALEM

(The following has been received at UN Headquarters from the Press Officer

with the United Nations Conciliation Commission for Palestine, Lausanne.)

The Committee on Jerusalem on behalf of the United Nations Conciliation Commission for Palestine, has asked the Israeli Delegation for clarification of certain press reports of declarations made in the Israeli Parliament concerning the installation of certain Israeli governmental services in Jerusalem.  The Committee also called attention to various press statements alluding to the transfer of some governmental services from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The Israeli Delegation declared that it knew nothing of the declarations in the Israeli Parliament reported by the press, but that it would communicate with its Government on this matter.

The Israeli Delegation stated further that the policy of the Government with regard to Jerusalem continued to be that set forth by Mr. Aubrey Eban, Permanent Representative of Israel to the UN, during the debate preceding the admission of Israel to the United Nations.
