Javier Solana
EU High Representative for the CFSP
expects the Israeli government to respect its obligations under the Roadmap,
particularly with regard to a settlement freeze
Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) made the following remarks following the decision of the government of Israel to authorise construction in Maale Adumim.
“The High Representative has expressed his concern following the Israeli decision to provide building permission for the E1 project in Maale Adumim. This decision contravenes the commitment of the parties to refrain from any unilateral measure that could affect a final status agreement, a commitment that was recalled by the Quartet in London on March 1. The European Union expects the Government of Israel to respect these obligations as laid out in the Roadmap and in particular with regard to a settlement freeze.”
