Beirut, 3 September 2004 (United Nations Information Service)— In frame of the ongoing preparations to hold the “Arab-International Forum on Rehabilitation and Development in the Occupied Palestinian Territory: Towards an Independent State” the League of Arab States (LAS) will be convening twenty five Arab economic organizations and funds in Cairo from 7 to 8 September 2004 in order to discuss ways and means of enhancing their contribution to the rehabilitation and development of the occupied Palestinian territory. The meeting will also bring together representatives from the Palestinian Authority (PA), Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and a number of concerned international and regional entities. In light of the Palestinian Development strategy, which will be presented at the meeting, the participants will elaborate on the most effective means of support to the rehabilitation and development process in the occupied Palestinian territory. The outcome of the Cairo meeting will be presented at the "Arab-International Forum on Rehabilitation and Development in the Occupied Palestinian Territory: Towards an Independent State" to be held in Beirut, 11-14 October 2004. The Forum, organized by ESCWA, the LAS and the PA, aims to enhance mechanisms for forging partnerships between Arab and Palestinian entities on several levels, thereby assisting the Palestinian people to overcome the repercussions of the occupation as well as to address future challenges. |
