Secretary General Receives European Parliament's Vice-President (13-1-2005) 

Secretary General Amre Moussa of the Arab League received Vice-President Edward McMillan of the European Parliament who is commissioned to observe the elections in Palestine.

Official Spokesman Hossam Zaki of the Arab League Secretary General said the meeting tackled both officials' viewpoints over the prominent issues in the region, specifically in Palestine. Likewise, the meeting tackled the Euro-Arab relations in general and Europe's relations with Arab Mediterranean states in specific, Spokesman Zaki added.

According to Zaki, Vice-President McMillan displayed keenness to know about the media's perception of the proposals concerning the Arab League reform which include an Arab Parliament. Secretary General Moussa briefed the European official over the reform proposals in general, pointing out that they will be discussed during the upcoming Arab Foreign Ministers meeting for onward presentation before the upcoming Arab summit in Algeria for sanctioning.

The meeting also tackled the European parliamentarians' mission, which will be led by McMillan, to observe the elections in the occupied Palestinian territories on January 9th. Both officials agreed on the concern laid by the international community to the subject elections, as Secretary General Moussa stressed the Palestinian people's right to conduct the voting process without harassments from the occupation forces, Zaki said.
