Situation in the OPT – Letter from Palestine

Letter dated 16 December 1988 from the Deputy Permanent Observer of

Palestine to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General

Upon instructions from the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, which has the powers and responsibilities of the Provisional Government of the State of Palestine, I bring the following to your immediate attention:

On 14 December 1988, Israeli occupation authorities deported three Palestinians from the occupied Palestinian territory to Lebanon.  They are Ahnied Hasan Mehana, 39 years old, Issa Eid Saleh Hamadeh, 60 years old, and Abdel Fattah Mahmoud Ziyara, 55 years old.

Today, Israeli occupation soldiers killed five Palestinians in Nablus and dozens of other Palestinians have been injured.  The city has been placed under curfew and is surrounded by Israeli occupation soldiers.

The Secretary-General and Security Council of the United Nations are called upon to take all appropriate and necessary measures to bring pressure on Israel, the occupying Power, to ensure respect for the Fourth Geneva Convention, as well as relevant Security Council resolutions, and to put an immediate end to the continuous violations and repressive measures against the Palestinian people living under Israeli military occupation.

I should be grateful if you would arrange to have the text of the present letter circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under agenda items 37, 40 and 77, and of the Security Council.
