Future government of Palestine – GA debate – Verbatim record

HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SECOND

PLENARY MEETING

Held at Lake Success, New York, on Monday,

26 April 1948, at noon.

President: Dr. J. ARCE (Argentina).

15. Further consideration of the question of the future government of Palestine: resolution submitted by the First Committee 1/

The PRESIDENT placed before the Assembly a resolution submitted by the First Committee.  That resolution had been approved by the Committee after discussion of a draft resolution proposed by France (document A/C.1/280) and amended by Sweden (document A/C.1/281).

Mr. ENTEZAM (Iran) asked that the resolution proposed by the First Committee should be approved without discussion.

Mr. GARCÍA GRANADOS (Guatemala) said that his delegation had originally voted in the First Committee for the Australian amendment (document A/C.1/282) which it had thought was the most adequate at the time, but as there was no other proposal before the General Assembly, he would vote for the resolution submitted by the delegation of France, as amended by the delegation of Sweden.

Mr. JESSUP (United States of America) supported the suggestion made by the representative of Iran.

The resolution was adopted by 46 votes to none, with 7 abstentions.

The meeting rose at 12.5 p.m.
