Annex to the letter dated 26 November 2001 from the Permanent Representative of Qatar

to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General

[Original: Arabic]

Qatar condemns and denounces Israel’s brutal outrages against the Palestinian people

The State of Qatar has condemned and denounced the outrages and inhuman acts committed by Israel against Palestinian citizens, and it has protested against the policy of assassinating representative leaders of the Palestinian people.

It did so in a statement made by an official spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Qatar News Agency to the effect that the outrages and actions in question are in violation of the principles of international law and the resolutions embodying international legitimacy, may threaten security and stability in the region and do not accord with the notions and principles enunciated by the United States Secretary of State with a view to creating the appropriate conditions for a resumption of the peace process in the Middle East and bringing it back on track.

In concluding his statement, the official spokesman affirmed that the State of Qatar will stand by the Palestinian people in its just struggle for the restoration of its legitimate rights, notably its right to exercise self-determination and establish an independent State on its own national soil with Jerusalem as its capital.
