FIRST COMMITTEE
FURTHER CONSIDERATION OF THE QUESTION OF THE
FUTURE GOVERNMENT OF PALESTINE
RESOLUTION ADOPTED AT THE HUNDRED AND
THIRTY-SEVEN MEETING ON 4 MAY 1948
The First Committee having considered the question of the future government of Palestine resolves to appoint a sub-committee composed of the officers of Committee I together with representatives of Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Cuba, Guatemala, France, India, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States.
The sub-committee, in the light of the situation in Palestine and of the work of the Security Council and the Trusteeship Council, and taking into account all suggestions made in the course of the Committee’s debate, shall formulate and report to the Committee a proposal for a provisional regime for Palestine.
The sub-committee shall take into account
(a) Whether it is likely that such proposal will commend itself to the Jewish and Arab communities of Palestine,
(b) Whether it is possible to implement this proposal and make it workable, and
The sub-committee may consult representatives of the United Nations Palestine Commission, the Mandatory Power, the Arab Higher Committee, and the Jewish Agency and may avail itself of the services of other experts on Palestine.
