  The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 5058th meeting, held on 19 October 2004 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations, having before it the report of the Secretary-General pursuant to Security Council resolution 1559 (2004) (S/2004/777).

  The President stated that, following consultations of the Council, he had been authorized to make a statement on behalf of the Council and read out the text of that statement (for the text, see S/PRST/2004/36; to be issued in Official Records of the Security Council, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council, 1 August 2004-31 July 2005).

  In accordance with the understanding reached in the Council’s prior consultations, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure to Kieran Prendergast, Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs.
