Summary statement by the Secretary-General on matters

of which the Security Council is seized and on the stage reached 

in their consideration 

   Addendum 

  Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General is submitting the following summary statement.

  The list of items of which the Security Council is seized is contained in document S/2005/15 of 25 February 2005.

  During the week ending 19 February 2005, the Security Council, at its 5121st meeting, held on 15 February 2005, proceeded to the election of a member of the International Court of Justice, pursuant to its resolution 1571 (2004) of 4 November 2004, to fill the vacancy that had occurred as a result of the resignation of Judge and former President Gilbert Guillaume (France) on 11 February 2005.

  In the voting at that meeting, Ronny Abraham (France) received the required majority of votes in the Security Council. As Mr. Abraham also received the required majority of votes in the General Assembly, he was declared elected a member of the International Court of Justice for a term of office expiring on 5 February 2009.

  The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 5122nd meeting, held on 15 February 2005 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.

  The President stated that, following consultations of the Council, he had been authorized to make a statement on behalf of the Council and read out the text of that statement (for the text, see S/PRST/2005/4; to be issued in Official Records of the Security Council, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council, 1 August 2004-31 July 2005 ).
