Report of the Secretary-General

1. At its fifty-fifth session, the Commission on Human Rights adopted resolution 1999/55, entitled "Situation in occupied Palestine"  In this resolution, the Commission, inter alia, reaffirmed the continuing and unqualified Palestinian right to self-determination, including the option of a State, and looked forward to the early fulfilment of that right.  It requested the Secretary-General to transmit the resolution to the Government of Israel and all other Governments, to distribute it on the widest possible scale and to make available to the Commission on Human Rights, prior to the convening of its fifty-sixth session, all information pertaining to the implementation of the resolution by the Government of Israel.

2. In accordance with these requests, the Secretariat, on 28 June 1999, addressed a note verbale to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel and to all other Governments requesting information pertaining to the implementation of the resolution by the Government of Israel.

3. No reply had been received at the time of the preparation of the present report.

4. The Department of Public Information undertook the activities enumerated in document E/CN.4/2000/23, paragraph 4.
