PETER HANSEN SENDS HIS CONDOLENCES TO THE PEOPLE OF
THE UAE ON THE DEATH OF HH SHEIKH ZAYED
Peter Hansen, Commissioner General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has sent his condolences to the people of the United Arab Emirates, the President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the UAE Government, on the death of HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
“HH Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan was the founding father of the United Arab Emirates and a great leader of his people,” Mr Hansen said. “The immense achievements of the UAE are the clear tribute to his vision.”
“His legacy among Palestine refugees should make every UAE citizen proud of their late leader. He made it possible for UNRWA to rebuild Jenin Camp in the West Bank and the new homes of hundreds of formerly homeless refugees will stand as testimony to Sheikh Zayed’s generosity,” Mr Hansen said.
"On behalf of UNRWA, its entire staff and the Palestine refugee community I offer my profound condolences. Sheikh Zayed’s admirers in the occupied Palestinian territory, the Arab World and the World at large, will mourn his passing and honour his memory.”
Thanks to a donation of US$27 million from the UAE Red Crescent Society UNRWA has been able to rebuild the centre of Jenin refugee camp. Over 400 families in Jenin lost their homes when the camp was destroyed in April 2002 during Israel’s operation Defensive Shield.
