Jigme Wangmo is one of eight Fellows under the President of the General Assembly’s Harnessing Opportunities for Promoting Empowerment (HOPE) of Youth Fellowship. She is also serving as a Third Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations.
Jigme joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bhutan as a Protocol Officer in 2020. She has hands on experience in protocol and consular affairs including organization of important national events, repatriation flights and overseeing privileges of diplomatic community among others. During her tenure, she has also made substantive contribution towards the formulation and revision of over twenty guidelines, manuals and other documents of the Ministry.
Jigme’s areas of interest includes human rights, climate change and gender equality among others. She intends to widen her knowledge in the work of the United Nations and engage meaningfully during her fellowship. She hopes to apply learnings from the Fellowship to her Ministry upon her return and proudly hold the baton of multilateralism.
Jigme holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Royal Institute of Management, Bhutan and a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management from the Infrastructure University of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
