“To understand and navigate the extensive UN System in order to enhance my skills in Diplomacy, Negotiations and Climate Change. This Fellowship is, needless to say, invaluable for myself and my country as this opportunity will allow me to grasp the system at its core.”

Jaala Jeremiah joined the OPGA team under the President of the General Assembly Fellowship for Harnessing Opportunities for Promoting Empowerment of Youth (PGA Fellowship for HOPE).
Prior to joining the PGA’s office, Jaala serves as Director for Water Resource Management in the Department of Climate Change and National Resilience under the Government of the Republic of Nauru, overseeing planning and implementation of water management issues, projects, and environmental policy development to meet and align with Nauru’s National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS).
Among her professional experiences, she was appointed Climate Change Attaché to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Nauru to the United Nations in October 2021. Her past experience includes short-term internship placements with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Nauru to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva as well as the Embassy of the Republic of Nauru to the Republic of China (Taiwan) in New Taipei City, both of which she assisted in an administrative capacity. Jaala has co-reviewed national policies related to climate change, energy, and water, and recently she participated in the Conference of Parties 26 (COP26) in Glasgow as a Delegate.
During her Fellowship with the OPGA she hopes to enhance her diplomacy and negotiation skills, as well as multilateral awareness. Subsequently, Jaala intends to implement her newfound skillsets through pushing forward her country’s interest at the international level.
Jaala holds a Bachelor Degree in Diplomacy and International Relations from Tamkang University, Republic of China (Taiwan).
