Mr. Fakasoa Tealei is a team leader for Climate Change, Oceans, and the Environment at the Sustainable Development Team for the President of the 76th session of the General Assembly. He is also the team’s focal point for Small Island Developing States and the Asia Pacific Group.

Prior to joining the Office, he was Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative of Tuvalu to the United Nations from 2018.

Mr. Tealei first joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2011 and had working experience on issues related to trade, labour and migration, and tourism. At the United Nations, Mr. Tealei represents the Tuvalu Mission at the Second and Third Committee and was also the Elections Officer. He was a coordinator for the Pacific Islands Forum group in New York from August 2019 to August 2021 and was one of the coordinators for the Pacific Small Island Developing States at the BBNJ negotiations.

Mr. Tealei holds a Master of International Relations from The Australian National University, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Ming Chuan University.
