AZERBAIJAN
The President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, will make an official visit to Azerbaijan.
He will be in Baku from 12 to 13 June, at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
President Shahid is scheduled to meet with President Ilham Aliyev, and will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov.
The President of the General Assembly is also expected to meet with the Chair of the Parliament, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova.
During his visit, her will engage with young people and academics at the ADA University, formerly known as the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy.
President Shahid will also meet with the UN Country Team, led by the Resident Coordinator, Ms. Vladanka Andreeva.
The costs of the trip are paid for by the Government and the OPGA Trust Fund.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Today in the General Assembly Hall, Member States voted for ECOSOC members for the 2023-2025 term. These are three-year terms.
The votes are still being counted in this hour, but I will email out the results.

African States: Botswana, Cabo Verde, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea
Asia-Pacific States: China, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Qatar and Republic of Korea
*Eastern European States: Slovakia and Slovenia + 1 ongoing vote
Latin American and Caribbean States: Brazil, Colombia and Costa Rica
Western European and other States: Denmark, Greece, New Zealand and Sweden
Also today, the General Assembly adopted by consensus the draft resolution on multilingualism, A/76/L.57.
The General Assembly then resumed the debate from 8 June on in the context of resolution 76/262, the so-called Veto Initiative.
Ambassador Kennedy Godfrey Gastorn, the Permanent Representative of Tanzania, is overseeing today’s General Assembly – both the morning and afternoon sessions.
