The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Mr. Mohammad Ziauddin, Ambassador-at-Large of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Hon. Sheikh Hasina.
The Ambassador-at-Large pledged the continued support of Bangladesh to the Office of the President of the General Assembly, and his vision for the Presidency of Hope. The Ambassador-at-large noted the relevance of the five rays of hope to the current global dynamics.
The President congratulated Bangladesh on its active engagement at the United Nations, and on its graduation from the LDC category. The President noted the advances Bangladesh has made in development, in contributing to peacekeeping and peacebuilding, and to promoting a culture of peace.
The President and the Ambassador-at-Large discussed the upcoming High-Level Meeting on Peacebuilding Financing and its importance as well as the need for predicable, adequate, and sustained financing for peacebuilding efforts.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
