The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr Abdulla Shahid, met with indigenous women participating in the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues on 29 April 2022.
During the meeting, the representatives of indigenous women highlighted the main challenges faced by indigenous women in different regions including violence against indigenous women, impact of climate change, and the importance of inclusion of indigenous women and girls in the realization of the 2030 development agenda.
The President stressed the importance of promoting and protecting the human rights of indigenous women and their empowerment, as well as the need to preserve indigenous cultures and languages.
The meeting took place at the Office of the President of the General Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
