The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Ayman Safadi, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Minister Safadi commended President Shahid on successfully steering the work of the General Assembly, specifically during the eleventh Emergency Special Session. He also reiterated Jordan’s pledge to uphold international law and respect for the independence and territorial integrity of nations as stipulated in the UN Charter.

Minister Safadi also briefed the President of the General Assembly on Jordan’s latest efforts regarding the Palestinian – Israeli crisis and emphasized the urgent need for a sustainable and predictable funding of UNRWA to enable it to deliver on its mandate.

President Shahid praised Jordan’s leadership in the region in providing humanitarian relief and hosting refugees from neighboring countries in crisis, mainly Palestinian and Syrian Refugees.

PGA underlined that security and stability cannot be achieved in the region without arriving at a just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution, based on the pre-1967 borders, with Palestinians and Israelis living peacefully side-by-side.

The PGA reaffirmed his commitment and his good offices to work with all parties and to provide any possible assistance to achieve peace and stability everywhere.

The meeting took place in the Office of the President of the General Assembly at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
