SPOKESPERSON FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT ABDULLA SHAHID
General Assembly
Starting with the Administrative and Budgetary Committee, known as the Fifth Committee. Negotiations went until 4 o’clock in the morning overnight. They picked up again this morning.
At this point, there is no date set yet for when the Fifth Committee will be discussed in the General Assembly plenary.
President Abdulla Shahid is keeping in close contact with the Committee, offering any necessary support that could help bridge the divide.
Columbia University
In terms of what else is on his agenda… this afternoon, he will meet virtually with Columbia University students. He is expected to speak about the priorities of his Presidency of Hope, including how young people could be more engaged in the work of the General Assembly. The President will also speak about his home country, Maldives, and its engagement on the international stage.
