The President of the 76th Sessional of the General Assembly H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met with the Permanent Representative of Antigua and Barbuda to the UN and Chair of AOSIS, H.E. Dr. Walton Alfonso Webson.
The Ambassador commended the President for taking up the cause of the plight of countries in vulnerable situations such as Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and encouraged continuation of such advocacy, especially as it relates to multi-dimensional vulnerabilities.
He also congratulated the President on his hosting the upcoming high-level event on “Galvanizing momentum for universal vaccination”.
The President outlined some of his other initiatives under consideration for the remainder of the 76th Session of the General Assembly including a proposed high-level event on tourism.
Both sides also exchanged views on other topics of relevance such as climate change, debt relief for SIDS, PGA’s Fellowship for HOPE and the follow-up process to the Secretary-General’s report ’Our Common Agenda’.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
