The President of the 76th Session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with Under Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Ms. Olga Algayerova.
The Executive Secretary thanked the President for convening the preparatory meeting for the High-level Meeting on Global Road Safety. She pledged continued cooperation with the Office of the President of the General Assembly to prepare for the High-level Meeting on Global Road Safety that is to be held on 30 June and 1 July 2022. She also requested the support of the President for road safety fundraising efforts, and implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development at the regional and local levels.
The President thanked UNECE for its support to the Office of the President of the General Assembly, and commended the Executive Secretary and UNECE, for their important contributions in promoting road safety, sustainable energy and urbanization. The President reiterated his commitment to supporting the work of the UN regional commissions, including the UNECE.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
