Readout of meeting between President of General Assembly and Ms. Mami Mizutori, Special Representative of the SG for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with Ms. Mami Mizutori, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Disaster Risk Reduction.

During the meeting, the Special Representative of the UNSG pledged the continued support of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, to the Office of the President of the General Assembly, including for specific priorities identified by President Shahid for the 76th session. 

The President underlined the necessity of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction’s technical support in delivering some of the environment related priorities under his Presidency of Hope. Both sides also discussed other relevant topics, such as the impacts of climate change, humanitarian situations, displacement due to climate, and the importance of recognizing disaster risk reduction as a cross cutting issue. 

The President met the SRSG Ms. Mizutori in his office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
