The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with the Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Kenya H.E. Ms. Raychelle Omamo.
Foreign Minister Omamo expressed the support of Kenya to advance the Presidency of Hope and the priorities identified by President Shahid for the 76th session. She also highlighted that his appointment sent a powerful message for other small islands states, and countries of the South. She expressed her full confidence in the PGA’s commitment to push forward issues of concern of the African continent. Minister Omamo also briefed PGA about the second United Nations Oceans Conference that Kenya would be co-hosting along with Portugal in Lisbon in June 2022.
The President thanked the African Group as well as Kenya for playing a pivotal part in his election and expressed his willingness and readiness to work closely with all Member states in order to galvanize efficient outcomes and assured to bring forth the various issues of the African Continent.
Both sides also discussed other relevant topics such as multilateralism, vaccine equity, climate change, youth, gender and the UNEP+50 anniversary in Kenya.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
