The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State for South Asia and the Commonwealth of the United Kingdom.  

Lord Ahmed congratulated the President on his poignant speech at the opening of the General Debate which highlighted the importance of multilateralism. The President said he looked forward to working with the UK in the lead up to COP26. PGA also commended the inspirational and impactful national statement delivered by Prime Minister Boris Jhonson during the General Debate. PGA particularly recollected the Prime Ministers statement, “the adolescence of humanity is coming to an end and must come to an end.

 PGA said that he would be convening a  High-Level Meeting on 26 October to build momentum ahead of Glasgow. Lord Ahmed stressed that COP26 was a milestone, not and an endpoint. 

 The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
