The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General for the League of Arab States.
Secretary General Gheit extended the full support of the League of Arab States (LAS) to the Office of the President of the General Assembly, including for specific priorities identified by President Shahid for the 76th session such as collective efforts to address the challenges and repercussions of COVID-19.
The President underlined the necessity of achieving vaccine equity by the end of 2022, as the first step to build back better from the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both sides also discussed other relevant topics, such as, Palestine, gender, youth, and the PGA Youth fellowship initiative.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
