The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid met today with Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill, the Secretary General’s Envoy on Technology.
The Envoy on Technology thanked President Shahid for his strong leadership throughout the process of implementing the recommendations in the Secretary General’s “Our common Agenda” report, in particular by hosting the five thematic consultations with Member States earlier this year. He briefed the President on his agenda, which would consist of three main areas: (i) to deliver on the proposed Global Digital Compact, (ii) enabling progress on the SDG’s through technology, and (iii) to facilitate internal coordination and coherence within the UN system workstreams.
President Shahid and Mr. Gill agreed on the importance to educate young people in digital technologies, including in research and science, as a power driver of sustainable development.
The meeting took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
