The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, held today, a coordination meeting with H.E. Zhang Jun, Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations in his capacity as the incoming President of the Security Council for the month of August 2022.
Ambassador Zhang briefed the President on the programme of the work of the Security Council during China’s Presidency in August, highlighting its signature events, namely Open Debate on capacity building for sustaining peace in Africa and briefing on the promotion of common security through dialogue and cooperation.
President Shahid recognized the importance of these topics and welcomed China’s efforts to highlight issues on the agenda of the Security Council. The discussions also touched on the Security Council reform and Our Common Agenda.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
