The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid met today with the leadership of the Riga Technical University (RTU), Prof. Leonīds Ribickis, Rector, Prof. Tālis Juhna, Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Igors Tipāns, Deputy Rector for International Academic Cooperation and Studies as well as Prof. Linda Mežule, Director of the Institute of Water Systems and Biotechnology in Riga, Latvia.
The representatives of RTU presented the University’s efforts to integrate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in all its field of activities, including education, research, and innovation by ensuring that technologies developed in laboratories find their ways to the market while engaging academia, education and research centers, public and private companies.
President Shahid underlined the importance of technologies in tackling global challenges and the need to involve academia in the work of the United Nations in advancing the achievement of SDGs.
The meeting is also touched upon the importance of providing equal opportunities for women in science education in all over the world.
The meeting took place at the premises of Riga Technical University in Riga, Latvia.
