The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid met today with H.E. Mr. Edgars Rinkēvicš, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia during a working dinner.
President Shahid commended Latvia’s active role in strengthening multilateralism and the rule-based international order, including the country’s efforts in providing services and protection to refugees fleeing Ukraine. He also expressed his gratitude for Latvia’s support for his priorities throughout this session.
Foreign Minister Rinkēvicš briefed President Shahid on the ongoing situation in Ukraine and its impact on the neighboring countries. He expressed Latvia’s deep concern on the Russian aggression against Ukraine and underlined his country’s commitment to tackle the crisis.
The discussion also touched upon the issues of addressing climate change, food security and ensuring gender equality, while achieving the implementation of the SDGs.
The meeting took place in the city of Jurmala, Latvia.
