The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met with H.E. Mr. Mario Adolfo Búcaro Flores, Minister of Foreign Affairs on 14 July 2022.
The President expressed gratitude for the support received by the Republic of Guatemala during his Presidency of Hope and congratulated him on Guatemala’s contributions to the United Nations peacekeeping operations and for the national efforts towards the fulfillment of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda.
The Minister highlighted that President Shahid was the first President of the General Assembly visiting his country. He also shared Guatemala’s efforts towards addressing climate change in the Central American and the Caribbean region.
Both sides also discussed other relevant topics including COVID-19 recovery, women’s leadership, multilateralism, the new common agenda for the future, and the recently concluded International Migration Review Forum.
The meeting took place at the National Palace of Culture, Guatemala City.
