Readout of the Meeting between the President of the General Assembly and Chairperson of Committee on World Food Security

The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, today met H.E. Ambassador Gabriel Ferrero, the Chairperson of the Committee on World Food Security.

The Chairperson expressed his gratitude to the President for his support to the work of the Committee on World Food Security and stressed the urgent need for the international community to take actions to curb food prices, promote food trade and provide humanitarian food assistance to the people in need.

The President commended the efforts of the Committee and shared his concerns about the rising food prices and the impact, especially on developing countries. He urged the international community to focus on the needs of the most vulnerable countries, including LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS. He pledged his continued support for the Chairperson’s efforts to galvanize global strength to address ongoing challenges.

The meeting took place in the President’s office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
