The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, today met with H.E. Dato Erywan bin Pehin Yusof, the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Minister Yusof and President Shahid discussed COVID recovery. Topics included vaccine equity and the role of COVAX, the impact of social media on vaccination rates, and tourism.
During the meeting, President Shahid commended Brunei’s efforts in advancing the situation in Myanmar, particularly in Minister Yusof’s capacity as the ASEAN Special Envoy. Minister Yusof appreciated the close coordination between ASEAN and the UN in addressing the situation in Myanmar.
President Shahid also thanked the Foreign Minister for Brunei’s strong support of his Presidency of Hope, including Brunei’s financial contribution to support the Fellowship of HOPE. President Shahid extended an invitation for Brunei to attend the High-Level Event on Moment for Nature to be held at the General Assembly in July.
Both sides also discussed other relevant topics, such as Our Common Agenda (OCA) and the impact of the Russia’s aggression in Ukraine
The meeting took place in the Rizqun Hotel, Bandar Seri Begawan.
