Readout of meeting between President of General Assembly and H.E. Ms. Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland

The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Ms. Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland.

They discussed the war in Ukraine, and its impact in the region and across the world, including on food security and energy prices. 

The President noted the strong support for the Emergency Special Session resolutions was a clear testament of support for the UN Charter. He commended Iceland on its acceptance of refugees fleeing from the conflict. In the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the Minister stressed that the need for multilateralism has never been greater. 

The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
