NOON BRIEFING HIGHLIGHTS BY PAULINA KUBIAK GREER,
SPOKESPERSON FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT ABDULLA SHAHID
United Nations Headquarters, New York
PRESIDENT’S ACTIVITIES
The President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, will have his first in-person public activity since returning from Palau, tomorrow.
President Shahid will meet with Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield, Permanent Representative of the United States.
This will be the monthly coordination meeting with the upcoming President of the Security Council.
CHINESE LANGUAGE DAY
Earlier today, President Shahid marked Chinese Language Day with a video message.
He noted that as one of the six official languages of the United Nations, the Chinese language is spoken by the largest population in the world.
Chinese characters carry with them eons of history; they represent the timeless wisdom embedded in Chinese civilization.
Speaking at a celebration organized by the UN Secretariat and the Chinese Mission to the UN, President Shahid said that today’s event gently reminds us that a babel of languages need not divide us but should unite us, as we aspire for a more peaceful, equitable and inclusive world.
