The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Ms. Ensieh Khazali, Vice President for Women & Family Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Vice President Khazali congratulated President Shahid for his “Presidency of Hope” and his leadership on the promotion of the rights of women and girls.
Vice President Khazali briefed the President on some of the pro-women initiatives launched by Iran including recognizing and accounting for unpaid care work, and provision of health insurance coverage for women.
They also agreed on the importance of the work of the General Assembly in advancing the situation of women around the world and the recognition of their contributions to societies.
President Shahid also stressed the need to work with young people to ensure a more equal and gender sensitive future. He also emphasized the importance of women being elevated to decision-making and leadership roles.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
