Meeting between the President of the General Assembly and Ms. Noeleen Heyzer, Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar

The President of the 76^th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with Ms. Noeleen Heyzer, Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar

The Secretary General’s Special Envoy conveyed the efforts under-taken by her office on the mandate and work in Myanmar and expressed her gratitude for the strong stance of the General Assembly in outlining her mandate. Ms. Heyzer discussed with the President of the General Assembly the importance of regional unity towards a solution in Myanmar.

The President of the General Assembly thanked the Special Envoy for her work and the updates she provided on the situation in Myanmar and conveyed the OPGA’s full readiness and cooperation towards the accomplishment of her work. He also congratulated Ms. Heyzer on constructively engaging with all relevant parties in support of a Myanmar-led process that is rooted in the will of the people.

The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
