On 18 February, the President of the 76th Session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid met with Ambassador H.E. Mrs. Mathu Joyini, Permanent Representative of South Africa.

Ambassador Joyini, in her capacity as Chair of the Bureau for the 66th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), briefed the President on the key programme components of the upcoming CSW Session scheduled in New York, from 14 to 25 March 2022.

The President welcomed the work and commitment of the bureau in ensuring a successful meeting and conveyed the OPGA’s readiness and cooperation during this important meeting.

The President also briefed Ambassador Joyini on the programme elements for the upcoming high-level event on Vaccines on 25 February and requested for early confirmation of participation by President Cyril Ramaphosa’s in the opening session through a video message in his capacity as the Co-Chair of the ACT Accelerator.

Both sides also discussed other relevant topics such as gender equality, Beijing+30, Stockhlom+50 and the peacebuilding commission.

The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
