The President of the 76th Session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with Secretary-General of Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Mr. Christophe Deloire.
During the meeting, President Shahid commended the dedication of journalists around the world in delivering news and their contribution for democracy. He also detailed the priorities of his Presidency, as well as forthcoming activities and initiatives. The Secretary-General of RSF expressed gratitude to the President for the work of the General Assembly in the protection of journalists.
They exchanged views on the right to information, the importance of journalism and the impact of disinformation. They also discussed areas of cooperation on digital issues as well as RSF’s Initiative on Information and Democracy and their campaign for a Special Representative of the UN Secretary-general for the Safety of Journalists. The President thanked Mr. Deloire for the valuable work of RSF and reiterated his commitment to the protection of journalists.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
