The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met with H.E. Mr. Ronaldo Costa Filho, Permanent Representative of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the United Nations. 

After pledging Brazil’s full support to the Presidency of Hope, Ambassador Costa Filho called for a measurable step forward in the process of UN reform. Ambassador Costa Filho also praised the Secretary-General on his report ‘Our Common Agenda’, highlighting that it was now up to member states to take ownership and put the recommendations into practice. 

The President thanked the Government of Brazil for its continued support and underscored his commitment to lead member states in building on common ground and moving in the direction of UN reform. Additionally, the President emphasised that the General Assembly was the most suitable venue to work towards implementing the comprehensive and forward-looking Our Common Agenda report. 

Both President Shahid and Ambassador Costa Filho further exchanged views on the broad GA Agenda and upcoming mandates, as well as expressed a positive perspective on the gradual return of in-person meetings and negotiations at the UN.

 The meeting took place in the President’s office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
