PGA highlights preparation and resilience in message on International Day  for Disaster Risk Reduction

Earlier today, Mr. Abdulla Shahid released a video message to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The PGA said that while we cannot stop geological or meteorological events of such incredible magnitude, we can build our resilience; we can better predict and prepare for them.

He highlights that this International Day is dedicated to build disaster resilience and to decrease the impact of disasters on vulnerable communities.

Mr. Shahid believes that humanity can do everything in its power not to exacerbate these natural processes, to avoid fueling droughts or floods with rampant climate change.

For the PGA, “only together will we stay ahead of the threats and only together will we learn to live in harmony with our environment.”

PGA’s Agenda

This afternoon, Mr. Abulla Shahid and the Secretary-General will hold their  monthly coordination meeting.

At 3 pm., the PGA will deliver remarks, this afternoon at the First Committee meeting in the GA Hall. He will later receive in his office for a bilateral meeting, the Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the UN, H.E Mr. Andreas Hadjichrysanthou

Tomorrow, the PGA will preside over the election for the Human Rights Council at 10 am. also at the GA Hall.

On Friday, Mr. Shahid will resume the informal discussions, the “Holhuashi Dialogues”, with Permanent Representatives to the United Nations.

This first meeting will be on Climate Change and Humanitarian Situations.
