The President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly H.E. Abdulla Shahid, addressed virtually the High-Level Dialogue on Energy held today

At the meeting the President highlighted that energy is critical to both our recovery from the global pandemic and our efforts to tackle climate change. And in this context, he noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the stark divide between energy haves and energy have-nots. He emphasized the need to work together – Governments, the UN system and other multi-stakeholders – to take urgent action to achieve SDG7 and to ensure that no one is left behind.

The High-Level Dialogue on Energy focused on discussing a global roadmap with recommended actions and milestones to accelerate the implementation of SDG7 by 2030 including voluntary commitments from Member States and other stakeholders in the form of “Energy Compacts” to set out actions planned to advance clean, affordable energy for all by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050. There are currently over 130 Energy Compacts that have been submitted.
