The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Minister Lavrov congratulated the President on his successful election and expressed his country’s support for the presidency. He highlighted the important role of PGA on building consensus among Member States. President Shahid presented his priorities for the session, in particular in relation with climate change and vaccination.
They also discussed issues related to multilateralism, COVID-19, international law and rules-based international order, IGN and security council reform and the situation in Afghanistan.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
