The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly (PGA), H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with Senator, the Hon Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Women of Australia.
The President thanked Minister Payne for Australia’s support for his Presidency and the Office of the PGA. They discussed the importance of vaccinations to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and allow countries to reopen to visitors to give a boost to the tourism sector and to support livelihoods.
The President stressed that he would champion youth and gender issues during his term. Minister Payne said Australia would be supportive of the initiatives of the President including the PGAs Youth Fellowship Program.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
