The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Mr. Bogdan Aurescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania.
Foreign Minister Aurescu expressed support to the President’s vision for the 76th session of the General Assembly and thanked him for accepting the invitation to participate in the 10th Ministerial Conference of the Communities of Democracies.
The President highlighted the necessity to prioritize access to vaccines to fight COVID-19, and to promote gender policies and involvement of youth in the multilateral work as a way to strengthen the United Nations.
They also discussed the importance of tackling climate change and the role of the UN organs, particularly the International Law Commission which has been working on legal issues arising due to the rise in sea levels.
The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
