The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with H.E. Dr. Sheikh Ahmad Nasser A-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs of the State of Kuwait.

Foreign Minister Al-Sabah re-affirmed the continued support of Kuwait to the Office of the President of the General Assembly, including for specific priorities identified by President Shahid for the 76th session such as the just and equitable distribution of vaccines for COVID-19, and collective international efforts to address challenges to the planet; agreed on the importance of keeping the United Nations Headquarters open for in-person diplomacy; and to strengthen the role of the General Assembly.

The President underlined the necessity of achieving vaccine equity by the end of 2022, as the first step to build back better from the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the significance of youth empowerment through belief in multilateralism, which will be a fundamental aspect of the Presidency of Hope. Both sides also discussed other relevant topics, such as food security, sustainable development, climate change, access to education, information technology and artificial intelligence.

The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
